Get involved!  The Gretna Public Library Board of Trustees is currently looking for new members!

The Library Board serves as the governing body that oversees the creation of policies and functionality of the Library.  The Board acts as a sort of “checks and balances” system for the Library, and must approve all reports submitted by the Library Director before they can be turned into the City.  The Library Board is made up of seven members from the Gretna community and they each serve a term of four years.  The Library Board meets on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:30pm.

If you are interested in joining the Library Board, then please complete this application and turn it into the Library or City Hall.

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to raise funds to supplement the budget of the Library.  In the past the Friends have purchased books, computers, shelving units, and even furniture for the Gretna Public Library.  We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:30pm (we do not meet in August though).

This is an excellent program for reluctant/beginning readers as it gives children time to practice their reading skills by sharing books with a therapy dog or two. Kids have the opportunity to read stories to the pups, and also learn about therapy dogs and how to interact with them.
